8th Grade Girl Dancing with Notes



This was drawn, using crayons, by a 8th grade Turkish girl as part of a cross-cultural study.

I'm delighted by the openness of this young artist to joining visual with aural and kinetic elements in her drawing.

I relish the way the dancing figure and two rugs dominate the image, while the television's presence recedes.

Graphite and oil pastel on paper?

I like to imagine that the child in the picture is dancing around in actual silence and can hear the music in her head. Kind of like a tune out get away from the world.
